Realize, Real eyes, Real lies (AO3/Wattpad/Tumblr/ fanfiction.net vs. AI)

Hello Delegates,

My name is Sophia Martinez and it is my pleasure to welcome you all into this vast and exciting side of the internet. Before AI slop and brainrot, teens rotted their brains primarily with fanfiction, varying from niche fandoms, to even IRL-ships. Through this passion for different shows, games, and other media, grew a devoted following towards fanfiction and their writers. From 300k word Naruto fanfictions, to 1,000 word Yuri on Ice fanfictions, people throughout the 2010’s indulged themselves in the places that these writers immersed themselves. I look forward to what you all create and not generate as the practice of fanfiction writing dwindles against the rise of AI today. I have been involved in UCBMUN since my freshman year, competing every now and then. I never was involved in MUN in High School so the collegiate circuit was my introduction to the world of Model UN! I am originally from Orange County, so meeting people on both the circuit and within UCBMUN is incredibly rewarding with how diverse Model UN is. This will be my fourth UCBMUN and second UCBMUN as a chair. Last year, I chaired the JCC Romeo and Juliet committee and absolutely loved that experience. Being in the frontroom and seeing the heated debates and discussions was incredibly fun to watch, and even better when seeing what the backroom came up with. Outside of Model UN, I am currently studying English and Public Policy, and hope to enter the field of law after my time at Cal. Outside of academics, I am a part of a pre-law fraternity on campus and work as a barista! I am super interested in coffee and a dream of mine after I retire from working in law is opening a cafe and running that place like the navy. Additionally, I enjoy playing tennis, and reading in my spare time (#whatasurprise). I look forward to meeting you all in committee!

Hellooo!! My name is Emily Chachagua, I am a third year at UC Berkeley working towards a Media Studies degree with a concentration in media law, and policy. As well as a dual Transnational Italian Studies and History minor!! I was born and raised in the bay and as an Oakland native you'll always find me trying to convince others to try hole in the wall and hidden gem restaurants in Oakland. If I'm not in Berkeley studying for another midterm, you'll also likely find me at the movies!! (amcstubmemberforlife). I think being able to re-tell and rewrite already existing and established stories, whilst building a following is a truly incredible task to achieve. It is incredibly admirable and truly such an underrated form of entertainment and expression. Therefore, I am so so so excited to see what stories each delegate will follow, re-write, and conquer!!!
