Topic A: Combatting Gender-Based Harassment in the Workplace

Topic B: Addressing Human Trafficking of Women and Girls

Gender inequality remains pervasive, affecting organizations worldwide, from modern workplaces such as corporate offices and factories to the hospitality industry and informal economies. This issue stems from the systemic undervaluation of one gender’s contributions, leading to disparities in pay, opportunity, and treatment. Gender inequality is often perpetuated by societal norms and insufficient enforcement of human rights, which fosters a security dilemma around gender roles. Additionally, sector leaders sometimes exploit these biases to maintain their power — exacerbating disparities and hindering progress. Such inequality challenges global development, leading to economic inefficiency and societal unrest. Despite these challenges, international responses often lack coordination and effective enforcement of gender equity and fair labor standards.

The International Labor Organization (ILO) aims to develop global strategies to tackle gender inequality when it comes to labor. Key questions include: What frameworks should the ILO adopt to enforce women’s rights and gender equity? How should governments ensure compliance with international standards? How can the international community respect cultural diversity while addressing gender-based injustices?

Note: This is a double-delegate committee.

Christina Mueller

Chair

Hello, my name is Christina Mueller (she/her) and I am so excited to serve as one of the chairs for the International Labour Organization. This committee combines two things I deeply enjoy: labor policy and the Dual-Del General Assembly! I have been involved in UCBMUN since the fall of my freshman year and it has become a huge part of my life. Last year, I served as a Head Delegate for our travel team and I currently have the honor of serving as one of the organization’s co-presidents. I am in my third year at UC Berkeley, majoring in Political Science with minors in Gender & Women’s studies and Public Policy. On campus, I serve as a research assistant at Berkeley’s Institute for Research on Labor and Employment and a member of the Gender Equity Committee for CalACLU. I am beyond excited for this committee, so bring your best research, speeches, and all the energy!

Yours,
Christina Mueller

Mye Makornwattana

Chair

Hi everyone! My name is Mye Makornwattana (she/her) and I am beyond excited to be your chair for ILO! I’m from Bangkok, Thailand and am currently a junior studying Molecular & Cell Biology (Therapeutics & Disease) with a minor in Gender and Women’s Studies on the Pre-Medical Track at UC Berkeley. I have competed in Model UN since highschool and have been a part of the UCBMUN team since my freshman fall semester, with some of my favorite college memories and best friends being from this club. Outside of MUN, I do neuroscience research at UCSF, teach and volunteer at different places, and love the outdoors or any kind of adventure. I hope that you are as excited about this committee as I am, and that it is an eye-opening experience for you to learn about labor in various settings and its intersections with healthcare, policy, gender equity, and the economy. Looking forward to meeting you and seeing your fruitful contributions to this committee!

Best,
Mye Makornwattana
