Bi*** Lasagna: PewDiePie vs T-Series - PewDieBye

This committee is one half of the JCC.

The subscriber race between T-series and PewDiePie was an entertaining affair that engaged large swathes of the world. While it brought many together on both sides of the competition, it also highlighted many unsettled questions and deep-rooted divides. Though it is easy to overlook this period of modern history as an internet meme, it poses several fundamental questions, as it embodies the intersection between many different competing interests amid the burgeoning rise of corporate social media outreach. Who is the Internet for? What is the purpose of social media? Delegates will consider these and other great questions of our time including Internet vs corporate culture, new age media, the court of public opinion and the court of law, corporate encroachment vs individual advancement, globalism vs nationalism, and more. The implicit goal of each side of the JCC will be for delegates to bring their organization to the forefront as the Caesar of Youtube, but as they explore the questions and conflicts that arise in the process, they may find that in the age of information, the internet is a highly fluid medium that presents many opportunities for personal and group advancement. As representatives on the T-Series side of the JCC, delegates will have to consider T-Series' role in disseminating Indian (and not just Bollywood!) music and culture to the world, and how to help promote this ultimate goal in the battle it has been dragged into by Pewdiepie. Indian media productions, despite their size and grandeur, have often gone overlooked in the West and even looked down upon as inferior. T-Series delegates must find ways to protect and promote the sharing of Indian content with the world while also resolving their long-standing "territorial" dispute with none other than Pewdiepie

Mark Basta

Chair

My name is Mark Basta (he/him), and I am excited to be your Chair for the PewDiePie side of the Joint Crisis Committee! I am a sophomore majoring in Political Science and Data Science. I was born and raised in Egypt, but I currently live in Alabama. I have been a member of UCBMUN since my freshman year, and have served as one of the Under Secretary-Generals of our high school conference, BearMUN, just last semester. In my free time, I am usually exploring some new place in San Francisco, learning a new recipe, or reading random blurbs of books at Doe Library!

Best,
Mark Basta

I'm excited to meet everyone and be your coordinating crisis director. Naturally, I am most eager to see who emerges victorious in this JCC subscriber race, but I am also looking forward to the inventive ideas you come up with to achieve this goal and others.

Claire Sawyer

Crisis Director

Hi! I'm Claire (she/her)! I am a senior studying Science, Technology, and Society here at Cal! I'm from a random suburb of Sacramento, CA so do with that what you will when evaluating my character. Anyways, I had a pretty intense Minecraft phase growing up (I’m definitely still in it and just trying to keep up appearances) and I am super excited to see where everyone takes this committee starring some of my childhood favorites!
